Install Guix

  • Yeah, I'm running dispatcharr through gluetun.

I've heard mixed things about this. On the one hand, I've read the VPN might slow you down. On the other hand, I've heard NOT having a VPN might cause your ISP to slow you down.

  • Yeah, I use the Jellyfin client on a Nvidia Shield.

    How to succeed at IPTV?

Does anyone have any tips on how to have a good experience with IPTV? So far I've tried 2 (well, maybe it's just 1) IPTV providers and the experience just kinda sucks. Most of the time I can't get channels to load and when I do, it usually takes like 30s-40s to load the channel. I definitely can't reasonably browse channels.

Once a channel loads, it's usually fine.

    I'm using dispatcharr + Jellyfin.

My server is plugged in via ethernet, but it does stream over wifi to my TV.

Are there any settings I could change to speed things up? Or is there some way I could auto-remove channels that don't load? Do I need faster internet speeds? Are the only reliable channels US channels? (I'm trying to watch non-US channels.)

  • Beautiful!

  • Does UnfinishedProjects have a stance on AI? Are AI tutorials OK to post? Is AI slopware OK to post? Are AI answers to skill exchange posts OK to post?

Might be worth mentioning that somewhere on the site.

  • What's up on piefed.zip?

  • I mean, there's a big ol' warning in the docs: https://docs.docker.com/engine/install/linux-postinstall/

The docker group grants root-level privileges to the user

But, I guess Docker doesn't really tell you not to do this... and I feel like a lot of mac users are used to adding sudo at the front of docker commands so... idk.

  • Pool management sucks... I got my pool from green back to blue, but it's been hard work. Tons of research, almost daily chores, tons of testing, TONS of money spent.

It's definitely nice to use it when I can though.

But, still. It's better to know someone who owns a pool, rather than owning the pool yourself.

In 2001, the FBI raided O.J.'s house and found smartcards, bootloaders.

  • Why is it called SLOPsmith... ?

  • If you choose to disable all vehicle connectivity, it will prevent data from leaving the vehicle, but it will also limit or disable certain functionality in the vehicle (e.g., navigation, lane keeping assistance, and over-the-air updates, which provide new features, better performance, safety enhancements, and bug fixes).

Yeah... wtf. Lane keeping requires an internet connection?? So what happens if you're driving through a zone with poor reception??

  • I recently found out my wax ring for my toilet was leaking. I noticed because water started leaking out from the base of the toilet. When I lifted the toilet, I found the wax ring almost entirely intact. The entire ring was very black.

That’s why I made this post. Because I have leaky wax rings.

I bought this house 5 years ago. 🤷 IDK why things started failing now.

  • Exactly what I'm feeling... I don't know of any companies that aren't drinking the koolaid. My friend recently got laid off. He suspects it was because it was constantly pushing back on AI slop from other engineers.

I've been skipping the AI questions on recent company surveys... a few days ago, my manager directly asked me for "my thoughts on AI" during our 1:1... kinda freaked me out... I didn't say anything bad about AI, but I also wasn't gushing over how much I love AI (I hate AI)... I feel like they're watching me a little more closely now... I'm going to start answering that I love AI on our surveys now... 😢

I don't feel like they genuinely care about discovering if AI works. The AI questions are usually like: "Do you like AI?" and the answers are like "A: Yes", "B: FUCK YES", or "C: omg please more AI!"

  • I know, right! That's a feature! This... might.... just be able to get me off of Whatsapp. I recently learned about Molly, an open source Signal client. They have a F-Droid repo.....

If you can install actual Google Play store apps, please don't tell me. I don't want to know. Lalalalalalala. 🙉🙉🙉🙉

  • I just started experimenting with SailfishOS, a Linux (non-Android) OS for phones. It's got an app store, but since it's not Android the app selection is pretty limited. I was actually wondering if this could be a compromise between full smartphone and full dumbphone.

I am able to run some Android apps, by installing them through F-Droid, like Bitwarden, but it seems like I wouldn't be able to install Facebook I think? Idk. Literally just got this SailfishOS phone from Jolla Devices yesterday.

  • Someone needs to make: buenus - clean room proprietary software to AGPLv3

  • It better not have a HiDPI display... It's not "fully Linux compatible" if they ship it with a buggy, non-compatible HiDPI display.

"Full Linux support" should mean I don't have blurry fonts, oddly shaped windows, stuck using only certain DEs, stuck using only certain apps.

  • Oh, good! That's exactly what I got!

That insulation needs to go too.

    Yep.
