Could be wrong but I think it’s due to the security vulnerabilities present, its generally better to just use Google play store with an anonymous account.

pineapple@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•If it ask for your phone number its not private.English1·17 hours agodw I don’t. My phone number was leaked, I don’t know how and it really sucks. It probably happened before I started caring about privacy. and all these phone number aliasing services either don’t operate in my region or cost too much money.

I mean I’m using pia, so not much better but I’m broke so I ain’t paying for mullvad or anything. I might switch to nymvpn when I get the chance though, it seams pretty good.
pineapple@lemmy.mlto Memes@lemmy.ml•But according to the libs round here, ChInA BaDDDDdddEnglish11·2 days agoClearly the top image is better and more practical, cars are the most versatile form of transport after all.
I wouldn’t call it useless, for people who just use a vpn for privacy, for all I know the only main use case for port forwarding in a vpn is torrenting linux iso’s rather than genuine privacy measures.
Pure vpn seams like a pretty generic scammy vpn like surfshark or nordvpn they have there own blog dedicated to why they are the best stating reasons like securing yourself in public wifi, protecting you from scams or getting hacked, protecting you against ddos atacks??? and just advertising vpn’s as a jack of all trades privacy toolkit, which they really aren’t.
VPN companies that are willing to lie to consumers about what vpn’s actually do means they could be lying about other things, like there no logs policy.
Proton does a better job at explaining what a vpn actually does and doesn’t do.
Nymvpn seams great! I’ve never heard of it either. I just hope it stays around and gets a name for itself.
- fun, I like trying out new software
- I love the philosophy of free software.
- fuck Microsoft and windows.
- It’s actually just better
(I switched last year)

pineapple@lemmy.mlto Linux@lemmy.ml•Under the hood (not de's or gui) what REALLY separates linux from windows?English1·2 months agoYes we would still prefer Linux. Windows is just a single object without any modularity. With Linux by itself is of course just a barebones kernal waiting to be added to. You can choose which gnu libraries to use you can chose which package manager to use you can chose which desktop environment to use (or ommit it entirely.) Windows doesn’t have that option.
As well since the source code for linux has been open for over 30 years people know how it works, it would take ages for people to study windows and actually figure out how to do anything with it.

The only network file sharing program that has always worked (mostly) floorlessly for me is AirDrop.

It’s still in alpha and I haven’t actually tested it yet but I plan to use it instead of regular file managers once it becomes stable and well supported.
