I agree, it is only a short term solution. For at least the next few years I don’t see Huawei doing so being a relatively small player. Long term unfortunately OpenHarmony is licensed under the Apache License so Huawei could end up locking up parts of it like Google ended up doing with Android.
I will probably move to HarmonyOS while keeping an eye on how OpenHarmony develops

Even at my workplace I asked HR for permission to switch the office desktop to GNU+Linux. They required the installation of a few malware spyware but otherwise didn’t mind.
I have been using GNU+Linux on and off since 2007 only using Windows when needed to. Now I’m fully Windows-free and intend to keep it this way.

I would take a 6-hour train ride over a 2-hour flight. Beyond that, e.g. 8-hour train ride vs. 2-hour flight, will have to factor other things.
Technically PRC is still developing. It is just developing past the stagnating or even regressing developed nations.
