which features of Dolphin do you like? I haven’t tried anything too crazy with either one

interesting, what’s different?

Just to clarify, are you using the Ubuntu Gnome desktop or the normal, vanilla Gnome?
Ubuntu’s default
I don’t like how KDE (by default) has a permanent bottom bar twice as tall 😅
I changed it immediately lol
Gnomes search includes emojis, so just hit super and type ‘cat’ then it’s there in the search results 🐈
Ok yea this is good
I haven’t looked into GNOME extensions yet

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll check these out! The terminal I’ve used most is PuTTY by far lol, so I haven’t figured out a favorite yet

I’m using a mix, mostly KDE Plasma but a few of the apps from GNOME (such as the Files app). For my dad he’s gonna stay on GNOME for sure, it should be a bit simpler for him and he hasn’t had any complaints, he’s been on it for a month or so. One day we’ll need to try to convince my mom to give Linux a shot lol.
If I had to pick myself without being able to mix, I’d choose Plasma

I haven’t tried that but it seems cool! I try to spend more time in GUI than terminal lol

6.4.5, not as far behind as I was expecting lol

I’m running Ubuntu but I installed kubuntu-desktop^ and I’ve been enjoying it. How do I see what version of KDE Plasma I’m using and how do I update it to 6.5? Knowing Ubuntu, I’ll need to add a different apt repo for it. I don’t think I added kubuntu’s apt repo.

I think that’s pretty standard for URL slugs

That does work! What about if it’s a remote community? Does it just use the post ID number to determine what instance it’s actually from?

It worked in Boost, but on Lemmy UI it doesn’t linkify the whole thing

You would think markdown would work, but no, these somehow have the same issue:

It’s just a scaler on the points, it doesn’t have any balancing methods in it. Few users means big multiplier on the scores.
Usually few users means few posts.
when I subscribe to a community it is first shown as “pending” and only a few minutes later as “joined” - why? What is it waiting for?
It’s synchronizing across servers. First it needs to ensure the remote server has your user object, then it tells the remote server to mark your user as subscribed to that community. And these aren’t immediate API calls, they’re queued up. Sometimes the message queue between servers has some other messages before yours so it may take longer than expected.

yea Lemmy needs more comments, not more posts

Off topic, but the new list of crossposts looks really good!

Back on topic, I think the way PieFed does it looks really good.
Subscribed+Scaled
ensures that I see posts from the small communities that I’m interested in
