  • In my experience, lead casting is pretty forgiving. I can't speak to plaster of paris as I've done mine in homemade green sand, but there shouldn't be much risk of catastrophic failure at lead casting temps. Much more likely to have regular, boring failure. Just make sure to wear decent PPE (eye pro should be non-negotiable) and give it a try. As long as you're safe, worst case is melt it down and try again.

  • I totally forgot you had a website. That'll be incredibly helpful. Good to see you back around.

  • Channel looks solid, suppose I'll have some homework ahead of me. How did you get your baffles for your Form 1? Off-the-shelf cups or something custom?

    Suppressor Questions

6 days left... and a couple questions.

    1. I know there are some great existing designs, but just because we can, I'd like to try to design my own. Does anyone know of some good resources for suppressor design? Anything that breaks down some key design characteristics or helpful calculations/simulations would be helpful. Is there any good sources, or is it kind of down to trial and error?
    2. What is the best place to check the legality of the process, assuming you go totally above board. Mainly asking because I would like to know the legality of unfinished suppressor-ish systems like solvent traps, undrilled cups, or a laser cut plate that could be folded into baffles.
  • Dope, just got a chance to check out the release. Definitely going to be on my project list.

  • Is this a complete new build or a cosmetic remix of something? Either way, looks immaculate.

  • To my knowledge, ASA isn't generally considered viable for builds. IIRC, it has worse tensile strength and can lead to catastrophic cracking. See: https://fosscad.io/post/72807 I have heard of people using it successfully for furniture though.

  • Slick build. Got a chance to see how she shoots yet?

  • Would something like an HT-PLA be well suited for the job on un-upgrades machines?

A question on the Kabuto TURD

Since Kabuto's original TURD design has been out for a while, I've seen probably a dozen or so remixes. I, for one, have no idea what the differences are beyond the trigger-specific or SCS versions. Anyone know which remixes are generally considered the best? Is there a "core" development version or one that has the most active testing? I heard that Kabuto was working on an improved version but wasn't sure if that was still an active project. Appreciate any info.

  • Looking good. What hardware have you included in the design? Just cut sheet metal and an ECM barrel? Very much appreciate a new fully DIY design.

  • Took me a bit to get running, but looks great. The new features sound great as well. Since everyone might not have python and C++ build tools on their device, would it be possible to release a compiled/standalone version to make it a bit more accessible?

  • Are there particular print settings you recommend tweaking for smoother magazine channels? Or just overall better calibration? For context, I'm working on ironing out magazine function on the extended mags in the MP22k build with the hardware from your kit.

  • Looks crisp, nice color choices. Is a heavier spring usually the best solution for a binding mag?

    Best Suppressor Designs?

With the change to federal regulation coming up in January, what are some of the best suppressor designs from the community? Best for .22 LR, 5.56 NATO, 30cal/9mm? Also are there any designs that won't need additional reinforcement? Just wanted to get a bit of a survey from everyone.

  • I suppose I can't speak out of practical experience but I do have some insight. For one, originally black power was made with what was called saltpeter, known now as potassium nitrate. That would be the "default" recipe. The other nitrates can be used but will likely significantly affect the burn rate of the powder. If you want to look into it, start with the standard potentials of each nitrate. Higher standard potential, stronger oxidizer, faster burn, more chamber pressure.

  • I haven't but I'll try when I get a chance. Honestly, I didnt really have much issue with the build, aside from casting the bolt weight which was a bit of a pain. Really just down to getting reliable ejection and smoother magazine feeding.

  • That seems really odd, are you sure that your bolt weight is fully seated into the recess in the bolt? I had no issues with bolt travel without touching the length of the recoil spring.

  • Since you have links on your BOMs to individual parts, do you recommend any builds that don't necessarily need any custom parts? Or at least can be worked around with scrap metal, a file, and time?

    MP22k Troubleshooting

Working on getting my MP22k from GCI running. Basic firing function (stripping rounds, chambering, and firing) is working fine but I'm having some issues with cycling. The biggest problem at the moment is ejection. From what I can tell, extraction is reliable but the casing isn't being properly kicked out through the ejection port. This results in a jam every shot or two. The manual says to start by removing material from the inside of the extractor arm so that it grips the casing more tightly, which I have done but I'm still having the same problem. My current plan is to continue incrementally removing material but I wanted to check if anyone had some experience or insight. Any tips appreciated.
