I’ve gotten used to the shameless politicization of virtually every part of American life by the current administration, which is unfortunate but necessary in some sense to stay sane at this point in history.  A classmate posted these pop-ups from the HUD website on our discussion board this morning, the first is from last night, and the second is from this morning. The blatant political rhetoric on an official website is disgusting and horrifying. Agencies are supposed to operate under constitutional and statutory rules, and their credibility comes from neutral competence, which is basically the idea that government should carry out the law fairly without turning into a political mouthpiece. Public trust depends on agencies being seen as fair and professional. If their communication starts sounding like a Trump campaign rally, people lose faith, and these agencies, whose job it is to help people in need, become nothing more than just another propoganda arm of the MAGA party. We must all be aware that these things are happening so that we can be better informed in how the MAGA movement is infiltrating every segment of our society. The people who require HUD services need REAL, FACTUAL INFORMATION, not campaign rhetoric in order to make it through this government shutdown. Give your friends and family who utilize HUD services all of their options from a factual standpoint and remember them during this time. NOTE: I have verified that these messages actually appear/appeared on the HUD website via Politico and NPR news stories.

I’m already mentally prepared for next year where government websites will have banners and popups saying “the Left is trying to steal the midterm elections, vote Republican.”
