I want to build a complete DIY 9mm. I currently have 42crmo 16OD/8.3ID 300mm steel tube and as far as I know it is perfect for fgc-9. Any other recommendations, maybe a handgun?

    Fully DIY 9mm handguns aren’t viable yet. Simple blowback designs like the FGC9 don’t scale down because you need about 500g of bolt weight. Until someone comes up with a viable locking mechanism, PDW size is about as compact as you can get.

    More modern DIY alternatives to the FGC9 include Rogue/Rebel and Urutau. The Rogue/Rebel designs are very full-featured, but making the bolt is more work than other designs. Urutau is a pretty easy build and a really enjoyable gun to shoot.

    We’ll hopefully be able to add the Decker 9 to that list soon.

      Thanks for details. I just inspected the documents of Rogue and Rebel. It feels like they require too much work to do without a drill press or a CNC but I have no rush, I can take my time to build something.

        If you’re not in a hurry you might want to consider the Decker 9. It’s currently in beta but it will be very similar to the 380 version that’s available now. It’s a very easy (and inexpensive) build and has some cool options like side feed or top feed, different fire control groups, etc.

    My advice is to print something 22. There are multiple established and beta tested fully diy 22 builds. Almost everything by Kaewon (baby barrett, m4gery, etc), or the SY22, or yh22 both went through betas and are fully printable.

    But I’m probably biased. Kits available for all these builds at my username dot com

      Thanks. I assume the steel tube (16mm OD/8.3mm ID) i have is oversized for .22 builds, right? Maybe I can get a steel tube locally that is okay to use with .22 ammunition but I am not sure about that, other than 304 and 316 steels are hard to get locally.

    Can you not just buy a barrel? If you live somewhere that’s firearm adverse then isn’t ammo gonna be your real problem? If you can get ram sets without difficulty then you could always make 26.5 mm from 1inch electrical conduit piping. Or 15mm or 37mm which in my opinion is just as fun if not more than regular firearms and aren’t technically firearms in the US.
