Praying for you 🕯️ O Great Mita 💝

  • Yeah, I only use Windows every now and then in a VM to flash Android devices, because I can't figure out how to use the CLI version of Odin on Linux. 😫 Even then, I use Tiny10 and debloat it with The Ultimate Windows Utility.

  • I am no expert at all, but I am reminded of what a buttload of drivers are included in the package group linux-firmware. Maybe that's why. 🤔🪛🔧

  • Ask yourself: what do you want to versus need to protect and why? Privacy for the sake of privacy is a waste of time, energy and other material, physical and mental resources. Formulate your threat model by spending some time with a pen and paper, answering the above question.

With that out of the way: I buy vouchers, because there is a physical retailer in my country that sells them and they are thankfully not hardcore affiliated with big tech yet. Previously, I used to pay with credit card, since PII is not saved it their payment tokens and even the tokens get deleted after six months, I believe it was.

If you need anonymity and you need to leave no trace of you having purchased Mullvad, use cash. Don't forget to put on vinyl gloves. Withdraw a vastly different amount of money from the ATM than the cost of the subscription fee in question. Deposit the envelope at a postal office - or box - not in your neighborhood.

Edit: I just recalled, that I did try paying with cash once. Worked like a charm. Naturally, there was a delay.

  • What have you done. I saw your comment the moment I entered my flat. I shouldn't have pressed the link (pun intended). But I did.

I didn't change, shower, eat or any other of my coming home on a workday routines. I just watched. And cried at the end.

My childhood is now complete. Thank you 🫶

  • Thank you! The day I can give somebody an answer on this level will be the day that I am content with life.

  • Yeah. If I could brag about doing this on my free time, I'd be a happy person.

  • If he's on the actual hardware, the CPU frequencies are between 4.19 MHz~8.38 MHz. Not sure how that translates into joypad I/O speeds, but still cool.

  • This was fun:

I am still using Samsung's own gallery and contacts app, but their network connection and internal trackers are blocked and they don't show up on packet inspections.

Also, "Plex -> NewPipe" is not true. It's "YouTube/Bandcamp -> NewPipe" and "any streaming service -> torrenting + sshfs + mpv into the torrenting server" in my case.

  • ISPs not only have a monopoly on connectivity and bandwidth prices - which they severely abuse by the way, considering the actual operational costs - but they also have everything to gain on analyzing your traffic, DNS queries being one of them. They already have a bunch of personally identifiable information (PII) on you (full name, date of birth, banking information and, in some countries, even social security number). Linking that PII to your DNS requests (read: what websites you visit) and selling that to data brokers is a pretty low effort sweet deal. Long are the days gone when ISPs only provided Internet service.

  • Much appreciated!

  • How would we overcome undefined goat behavior without compatible/capable/viable VRMs? Feels like we'd struggle with similar limitations regarding electrogoative force as when we experimened with ternary signaling...

  • What are you people even on about with this software bullcrap?

I just slap a stepdown module onto the rig somewhere and call it a day.

  • Everyone: help me lower temps \Me: compiling 100 GB worth of shaders for gaming on ultra settings in a room that's 30 degrees Celsius without the slightest afterthought. MAKE YOUR MONEY, NOCTUA FANS (six for chassi + two for CPU)

Also, look into undervolting 😊 although I know it's tricky, to say the least, on Linux...

  • Yeah, I failed to mention that this is not about updating but installing from scratch.

  • I think we've got off track. Stevenblack's is already shipped with AdAway. AdAway works perfectly fine with Magisk's systemless hosts. I have no other reason for wanting to change to another app than the fact that it hasn't been updated since 2024.

  • You mean systemless hosts works without being called/used by an app? Do you know the systemless hosts file path?

  • Interesting! And thank you! I already see a hosts file under /system/etc/, for now only containing localhost. Could I not just edit this file and be done? I know too little about how Android works...

If I do need to mount /system, can I not do it from the stock recovery? I think I saw a "mount system partition" in there the other day.

  • That's a great idea for the ad blocking, which is what I am writing about in the OP, but I also would like to be able to block specific hosts and IP addresses on a hosts file level, in order to stop system apps from connecting.
