DB Alloy 5.7, MPA upper, SCS for the plates, random obnoxious brake that was in the bin, $25 river store dot, wifes fingernail polish to color code the safe/fire indicator dimples, and motorcycle engine anti-walk.

How is the recoil on the 5.7 MAC uppers? I built a DB9, but hated the 9mm MAC 11 action (way too harsh). I’ve since converted it to 22LR which I love, but I’ve been really curious about the 5.7.

It’s definitely not .22 soft, but it’s not bad at all. Somewhat comparable to a P90/PS90 if you’ve ever shot one of those. They’re both direct blowback. A little snappy just due to the speed and bore height over grip, but not punchy and doesn’t hit hard at all.

I really like the 5.7x28 round in general. I wanted to try it out on the cheap so that was why I built the DB. Liked it there so I picked up an M&P 5.7, loved that, then I went down the P90 rabbit hole and loving it there.

I think this is going to be my next build, it’s just too cool.

Do it. Even when you’ve moved on to other projects and don’t take it out as much, it looks badass sitting in the safe.

Thanks! It’s a really fun one to take to the range. Very pleased with how it turned out.

It’s definitely my favorite build to date. I need to re-fill and re-drill the FCG pin holes. I swapped triggers in it so I could try a fresh cut/profile for a different project and wallowed them out again. Fortunately I made a jig for that the first time it happened:

PETG for the chassis, and the grip is PLA I think.

A lot of folks shy away from it, but in some applications it’s quite good. With the Alloy having the reinforcement plates on the sides, it mitigates shock stresses and lets the PETG be good at being PETG in the other spots.

Is there anywhere other than mpa selling the uppers in 5.7?

I haven’t seen any others offered in 5.7. The MPA upper is pretty decent, no complaints. You do have to trim a little bit out of the rear section for FCG clearance, but it’s not bad at all.

My only gripe is the stock situation. I think it speaks to the size of 3d2a community. Impact 5.7 uppers being out of stock at the same time of unseenkillers 5.7 Mac release may be coincidence but I somehow don’t think I’m it is having seen similar things being suddenly in out of stock shortly after a 3d2a release more than once in my two year span of interest in the hobby segment.

Yeah, when it first came out, I waited a couple months before it came back in stock. It may show that 3d2a is more popular than it used to be, and companies popping up aimed entirely at that market segment proves it. Ultimately it’s still going to be a niche low-volume product, so they’ll do it in smaller batches and get back to regular bread and butter production. Happy to see them doing it at all.
